I have known Uwe Meyer for over 20 years. We did business together when I had my printshop. We met at Wreck Beach in the buffs in summers past. We bicycled around Stanley Park, rollerbladed, "Shoeplattlered", unicycled, skied and hiked and this last summer we celebrated at a beautiful garden party at his property on Easth 11th, where he entertained friends with his unique and funny style of humour.

Last August, I asked Uwe, on behalf of the Swiss Society of Vancouver, to fly over the City and produce an aerial photo of Vancouver with the mountains in the background. It took a long time, because of either pollution in the air or unpredictable weather, but finally at the last minute, he was able to come up with a wonderful shot, which we needed for the cover of our Festschrift, to commemorate our 50th anniversary. This must have been Uwe's last aerial photo flight, before his tragic and untimely death.

On Novembrer 15, 1998, a the age of 52, Uwe Meyer was sucked down into a whirlpool in his kayak, while running down the rainswollen Capilano River in North Vancouver. He couldn't get out in time and drowned.

The Swiss Society offered the mourning family our sincere sympathy. I will always remember Uwe Meyer as a good friend with a big ego and a big heart.
